JULIET KANG HUNEKE

ACTOR / PLAYWRIGHT

Hi, I’m Juliet! I’m a Chicago-based actor, playwright, teaching artist, and lover of Rupaul’s Drag Race. In 2022, I graduated from Northwestern University with a B.A. in Theatre, with concentrations in acting and playwriting. When I’m not making theatre, you can find me crocheting a sweater vest or screaming along to Phoebe Bridgers. You can learn more about my theatrical work below!

ACTOR

As an actor, I get excited about working collaboratively and with an outward focus on the audience. Aside from the standard published plays and musicals, I have performed extensively in new play development processes, in devised shows, in Theatre for Young Audiences, and as a long-form improviser. For me, performing is about creating a net positive experience for audience members, and giving them space to imagine new worlds!

PLAYWRIGHT

As a playwright, I create conceptual, larger-than-life, and absurd plays with a purpose. I also champion teenagers/young adults, femininity, queerness, and Asian-American/multiracial identities in my plays. I believe that as a playwright, my job is to build the world I’d want to see, to IMAGINE what it would take to change the real world, and then blow it up theatrically on stage. I believe it is a triumphant act to write plays involving real-world issues and then build your characters a revolutionary happy ending.

TEACHING ARTIST

I pride myself on seeking to allow every kid I work with to have full agency over what they create, and the freedom to use their imagination fully. At Northwestern, I spent four years with Seesaw Theatre, a theatre company which creates original multi-sensory theatre for disabled young audiences. In the summer of 2022 I was an Education Apprentice at Chicago Children’s Theatre. Currently, I am teaching theatre classes around Chicago with CCT and Porchlight Music Theatre!
